I am getting an error message when I finish a round that says:



"Failed to award one or more achievements. You have been disconnected from xbox live or your storage device is full or unavailable. Please check your network connections and/or storage device."



I have confirmed I am connected to xbox live.



I have not noticed if the error happens every time I finish a resurgence level since getting the final resurgence achievement.

I got it just once in the middle of an Overflow game (not the campaign), I hit OK / Resume and everything seemed fine and I was still connected to XBL (and my drive where the saves where still had 6+ GB available).

I get this error on my Xbox too, mostly after finishing a level... It doesn't seem to have any implications though... scores are registered and all.

Sounds like a LIVE system error that happens and the game handles as it should.* I'm not sure what else to make of it.

... and me too.

Only happens on Service Interruption and Height of Confusion (map pack 1 if memory serves).
I can reproduce it consistently.

Method 1
1) Start any mode on said maps
2) Press start > return to main menu (doesn't matter if I place towers or not)
3) I'm returned to main menu, and after 1-2 secs, I get the error message oatmeal described

Method 2
1) start any mode
2) Play through all waves
3) On the score screen, the error message pops-up, and freezes the game untill I press B, at which point the narrator will finish his last sentence, and i'm returned to the Resurgence map selection screen.

As stated above, it doesn't seem to affect scores, medals etc. but it is an annoyance

I've cleared my cache, deleted my save file and redownloaded the game.
None of this fixed the issue.

Unfortunately, I haven't got any vidcap hardware, so I can't post a video.

I also get this error, fairly often. Even though I have already earned all the achievements, if I finish one of the expansion levels (I can't remember if it is a specific one), I see the error message.

Oddly, I seem to remember loading the "achievements" window from the game's main menu, and the expansion level's achievements (the blue icons) were not there. I can see them from the dashboard (I think) and definitely from Xbox.com.

I believe this started to happen for the first time as I worked on the "Overflowing" achievement, but I might be wrong about that.

My Internet connection is pretty solid, and like I said, this issue hasn't gone away.

Yesterday and today, I was going through defense grid getting my achievements. I just now got this error, and another strangeness. I had all achievements except Nail Biter and Master Strategist. Here's what happened:


Picked Height of Confusion / Poison Core to get Nail Biter.
Won it by using the orbital laser on the last Juggernaut (not dramatic, I know)
The game finished, went to the result screen, posted the achievement, then my xbox froze. (It's never frozen before, btw.)
Restarted the xbox, signed back in, restarted the game.
Nail Biter was listed as awarded.
Started Long Descent in Story Challenge mode, mostly on fast-forward.
Won the game, went to the results screen, still holding fast-forward.
The game displayed the red background and froze without displaying anything else.
Rebooted, etc. Hadn't gotten gold on this, so I redid it.
Repeat at 7 a few times, until I got gold. DID NOT hold the fast-forward button down through to the results the last time.
The game gave me the "Failed to award" message
Played through Out of Fuel 10k Challenge, got gold, received the message again.


Now I get the message after every game.
I have plenty of space, I'm signed in to Live, nothing outside the game seems to be amiss.
The game shows I have all achievements except Master Strategist. I'm not sure if this error message is it trying to award Master Strategist or Nail Biter, or if it's unrelated.

Im getting this too.

Thought my 360 was about to die, but now im "relived" its only a bug.

- I moved my Gamer Tag to my Memory Card, but DG started moaning so i moved it back.

- DG Still asks me for a storage device every time i play even though i've selected the HDD.

- DG Locks every time at the red screen and doesn't display the after game report.

- DG Does give update my medals however, even after i have to reset my 360.

Bug Fix please!

I'm getting this, and it only happened after I downloaded the new map packs. I get it randomly at any time during about 90% of the maps/modes I play, Awakening, Borderlands, and Resurgence. Most of the time it's fine, but sometimes it freezes the game.

I'm thinking it's a problem with one or more of the achievements with the new map packs, and that the system keeps trying to award and achievement I've already got (I'm 250/250). It would be nice if this little glitch could get fixed. Dev men, where are you?

The errors we've been able to verify occur when your gamertag and saved games are put on a memory stick rather than a memory card or the hard drive.* When we released Defense Grid, memory sticks weren't available and they have different (lower) performance characteristics that we didn't account for at the time.* Moving your gamertag and saved games to the hard drive for example, should solve the issue.

GOOD NEWS!* Our colleagues at Microsoft have discovered the source of the Defense Grid achievement problem that some users are having and it has been corrected and verified by the Xbox LIVE team!


Now that this issue is fixed there are a couple things you should know


1. Players who have not yet earned the Achievement, should now be able to successfully earn the achievement once they meet the requirements.


2. However, players who have met the Achievement requirements but didn’t receive it will have to recover their profiles in order re-earn it.* For instructions on how to do this, please refer to the following support site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907333?sd=xbox

I have defense grid 100% complete, and i now get this error message. Short of deleting and reinstalling the game, how can i solve this issue?

I checked the above link and it didnt help at all. In on my hard drive for the save, and always have been.

I hope you can help me. I want to get the latest content, but if my achievements wont register then its no use.

Hi Folks,

Thanks so much for reporting these things. We've been talking with Microsoft a lot over the last 24 hours and will continue to do so. The freezing and the achievement error are not something we saw in the test environment they provide to us, and aren't something we have been able to reproduce here in either environment, so it appears to be a difference between how our game behaves in the test environment vs. how the same game behaves in the production environment for *some* people. Already Microsoft found one way in which they hadn't set up things as they were supposed to be in the production environment and we'll work with them to see if there are other ways as well.

Our goal is to help MS find any issues on setup, or get a repro case that we can see under the debugger and determine what is happening. We're on that and will do what we can.

ok. Last night I played on I think it was level two and three of the original content. And I played in the "fully loaded" mode. And the game didnt freeze or display the achievement warning. So that seemed fine.

However still earlier in the evening, while playing on the second add on pack, resurgance, I experienced the warning that an achievement wasnt awarded, and that my storage device was full or I wasnt connected to Xbox live. Well I have about 200 gig free on my drive and I was hooked into Live by a LAN cable. So I dont believe either one of those explanations.

Additionally, my game is 100% complete. All acheivements.

Im not trying to brag, just trying to give all the info possible to help you guys identify the problem.

I don't know if additional information is useful to you or not, but I am receiving the same error. I have deleted and re-downloaded the base game and all 5 pieces of DLC, and I have recovered my profile as outlined above in this thread. It doesn't seem to always apply though. I have received the achievement for getting a gold medal on one of the "You Monster" levels, but despite finishing all of the story levels I have not received the achievement for getting at least a bronze on each level. It also seems like, despite already having earned the achievement, that it is trying to award me the achievement for destorying a boss alien each time I boot up the game and play a level. Thank you for any help you can provide.

I downloaded You Monster last night. And yes the bug is still there. Im still getting the ERROR message and my game just stops. I have to cancel out the message and then Resume game.

I have the same problem. Even tried to delete everything (map packs, my save game, everything!) and downloaded everything "fresh" - and the error is still there:(

Not sure if this helps, but I've managed to half-fix this. It seems to have something to do with the new cloud storage thing, because I was having the issue with one achievement unlocked, kept playing for a while; and then I moved my save data to the cloud storage, and I unlocked two achievements straight away after one more game, but I still get the error.

I believe it's trying to unlock the Magestic Pony and You Monster achievements; these should only require getting gold on all the main story missions, correct? There seems to be some ambiguity regarding the achievement requirements, because in addition to the above, I've already unlocked Best Friends Forever, but I haven't played any "Story Challenge" missions yet; I've just done the main, regular story, and a few grinder missions.

Assorted troubleshooting information, in case it's relevant:
Console: Original (Not slim)
Location: Australia
Storage: 120gb HDD and cloud. HDD Unchanged for about 2 years.
DLC: No others, just You Monster. (Getting the others after I'm finished You Monster though!)
Network connection: Ethernet.

Yet another bug....

I'm getting the same issue. BOTH my save file and game profile are stored on my Xbox HD. The error still occurs the moment I "earn" any achievement.

Since when does even being connected to Xbox Live limit single player achievements???? What other game has this limitation??? None that I can think of.

We had a good discussion Friday afternoon with Microsoft, but we're waiting to hear how the fix can be applied from them. Hope to know more on Monday. It really pains us that this is happening to some of our customers after all the testing we went through to try to prevent anything like this expeirence.

For the record, I recall a game on Live arcade that refused to play at all unless I was connected. So, meh it happens.

And Secondly, thanks Jeff for the quick replies. Its nice to know that someone in your company is paying attention to us, listening to our problems and answering our questions.

Your going to think I'm some sort of spambot, as I've posted my issues in a couple of other threads, thanks for the response. However, as it appears this problem has been known for well over a year, I'm really surprised it hasn't been fixed by now? It didn't really bother me previously, because it only very rarely crashed, but now it crashes more often since I've downloaded You Monster and the update. Tell Microsoft to pull their finger out, as it seems to be their issue rather than yours!

The error you are talking about is whether or not you have to be connected to play the game, is that correct?

I will admit, that is not the thing we are focused on with Microsoft right now - it's getting the achievements working for You Monster, stopping the freezing, and stopping the "enter the menu before loading is done" bug. But I can add yours to the list. I was not previously aware of it.

My issue is the freezing, which has become much more frequent since the recent downloads. I'm also getting the "failed to award one or more achievements, etc." message, even when I've not earned one.

Ok. If you had freezing prior to the update, then I would recommend you try recovering your gamertag.

Not for me. I've got everything stored on my x-box (new black "slim" model), and I'm always connected to the net. This was an issue I had with the game before the last update of both the game and the x-box itself for that matter.

Love the game, hope to see this get fixed.

Just to give you guys a little more information, in case it helps. I cleared my cache and the problem persists. Next up is to try all three at the same time, so tomorrow morning I will clear my cache, delete all of my DG content (except my save), and recover my profile. Thanks for working so hard with Microsoft to figure this out.

I started getting this bug randomly upon playing "You Monster" I had never gotten it previously... I cleared my cache and recovered my profile to the HDD and it still happens in the game and after every mission.

it's good to hear there is a fix in the works since most games with this level of bug never get patched at all and basically remain ruined forever.

I love Defense Grid. it;s the best Tower Defense game available on the 360. I hope that content keeps coming forever... preferably glitch free.

Only thing that sucks is...

I have been getting this message for a long time, since i downloaded one of the previous map packs. It is quite anoying, however it never kept me from earning achievements.

In the You Monster campaign it becomes a problem though. I did not receive the Majestic Pony achievement when i got gold or silver medals on all story missions.
The game also froze 4 or 5 times in a few hours.

I tried the following :
Recovered my gamertag on another xbox with HD that never played Defence Grid.
Downloaded Defence Grid and the You Monster campaign.
I did not use my old save game. (Medals still showed up, must be stored on gamertag.)

About a minute in the game on this Defence Grid-virgin xbox i got the same message...

I am gonna wait for a patch before i get all gold medals, dont wanna miss the pony cheevo. Nice to see that Hidden Path is working on it !

We're working with Microsoft on getting acheivements awarded and seeing if this is also the source of the freezing. While you likely will have to recover your gamertag after a fix, it is unlikely that you will have to re-earn the acheivements.

I don't mind re-earning, the game is fun enough to merit that... I just want the error and the freezing to stop... I love you guys... I love your games... especially DG... I'll just wait patiently for a fix... hopefully you don't do what Tropico 3 did and just keep telling us you're working on a fix and them at some point just stop saying anything and no fix ever comes... that's make me sad.

Well last night was the first for me on a couple of levels. #1 the first time my new Slim 360 locked up. #2 the first time DG has locked up on me totally.

I was playing Suprise Party (final You Monster Level) on Super Grinder and at level 96 it froze, locked, stopped working.

At this point I should post something of my anguish in all capital letters to vent my soul felt frustration.

But . . . instead I shall await the arrival of the fix in the next 10 days or so.

Still, frustrated by this new development though.

Is a fix coming for the achievement and freezing issues? I'm seeing these constantly trying to play through You Monster. If the game wasn't so great I would have given up on it a while ago.
