Gold/Silver/Bronze medals are no longer visible

    Hi,

I'm running the Steam version of the game and have all of the DLC, except the most recent Containment. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit), with an i5-2500K CPU @3.30 GHz and 4.0 GB RAM.

I've had the game for a long time now and have beaten hundreds of missions, trying to get gold medals on all of them (grinder, super grinder, shredder, story, challenge, 20K resources, etc...).

Typically what I do when I play, is load up the level select screen and just look for any missions that I don't have a Gold Medal in by looking at the screen and it will show the little Gold/Silver/Bronze Medal next to any completed level. But around February 10th (I'm guessing it was due to an update), ALL of my completed Gold/Silver/Bronze Medals disappeared from the level-select screen. All of my scores are still there, it's just EXTREMELY annoying, because if I want to see if I've beaten a level, I have to mouse-over on "Grinder" or "Story Challenge" or whatever, and wait for the internet to load my score to see if I've beaten it yet.

I tried two different methods to fix it (both failed):

    1) I completely uninstalled Defense Grid and reinstalled it (but I backed up my saved games)
    2) I completely uninstalled steam and reinstalled it.

One other thing to note is that when I beat a level now, a NEW Medal will indeed appear (as it should), but all of my previously earned medals are no longer visible. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

    Thanks

You can do this using the utility in the community tab in-game. Re-award medals from the leaderboard. Takes a while to run but it should fix your problem.

    Wow, thank you!

Now I'm confused though - why on Earth did they take away my medals, then force me to go through a few menus to reclaim them? Wouldn't it make more sense to just not take them from me in the first place?! I must be missing something here!

    Hi,

We didn't take them away. They're part of your profile file on your computer. Some people though, when they reinstall Steam, or something happens lose their profile. I can't say how or why this happens, but it appears to every so often. When one of our engineers heard about this, he thought - "well, we ought to be able to rebuild their profile from the leaderboards". And so a new feature was born and added in the community section. In the future I suppose we could store medals on the leaderboards, but if we did that those people who like playing mostly offline would get frustrated.
