Very Poor performance after a couple of minutes of 3rd level

Silky smooth for the first 2 levels
A few waves into the 3rd it sloooows down to a slideshow then stops

It is not down to my PC specs I have 8Gb Ram and a quad core CPU
and a Geforce 8800 GTS GFX card with 640Mb on board
    Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS
Both my CPU and Ram utilization hover around the 27-30% mark while game is running

If i exit the game and come back in it runs ok for about 10 seconds then gets slower and slower pretty quickly
Annoying as i was really enjoying it!
    Purchased via Steam BTW

    Looking into it

Thanks, we're jumping on this one right away.* We've heard this now from 3 users and have a mini-dump and are looking into the problem.* It's a new one to us, but we'll work on it quickly.

    Excellent stuff, Thanks Jeff.

If you need any more info let me know.

It's a great game looking forward to getting stuck in after the required tweak!

    A request

Could you run DXDiag on your computer and send the resulting log file to info@hiddenpath.com?* It would be appreciated.* Also, are you using Vista-64 bit by chance?

    Just read more carefully

You are running Vista-64.* Ok, that seems to potentially be a common thread here.

    XP SP3

Same issue here except I am running SP3.
It seems that if I exit the game and continue where I left off, it works fine for about 2-3 minutes.

Registered to comment on this same issue. I've persevered a few more levels on and this issue, which started for me in level 3 as well, has continued in every level since. EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm running XP, just to throw a spanner in the works.

A couple of other issues I've noticed and would like to mention; I have no turret firing sounds, not sure if there are supposed to be any but I'd assume so. Secondly, I keep getting random crashes to desktop and my anti-virus, Kaspersky Labs, tells me defensegrid.exe has been denied windows shutdown access.

Otherwise, I've been waiting for this game as I am a big turret defense fan, and this is enjoyable so far.

I am also getting this issue

I am also getting this issue but I am not running an x64 version of windows.
As stated above exiting to the main menu then going back into the same level and continuing makes the game from great for a few minutes until the same problems arise.
I am also not getting any shooting sounds at all.
I have sent a dxdiag to the above address.

    Thanks for sending DXDiags

Thanks everyone for sending DXDiag files - it is helping us to identify the right place to look for the problem.* We are finding data that isn't consistant between machines as you are noting above so if you have this issue, please do the following:* 1. make sure you have the latest video driver, 2. make sure you have the latest audio driver, 3. send us a DXDiag file should the problem persist.

    Thanks much!

    Jerky and no sound

Hello. Just got the game from steam. Always loved Tower D, and this look to be promising. As people above have mentioned, I too am having problems with the 3rd level as well as no turret sounds. I will mail my DX Diag. to assist in getting this fixed.

A Message to those having the "slowdown on Level 3" issue

    Hello,

Let me start off by apologizing to you that you are having this issue at all.* Before today, we had not*heard of*this situation in hundreds of hours of testing and almost 100 different computer configurations tested.* I assure you, we would not have shipped the game if we knew this bug was there until after we had fixed or addressed it.

Right now, by my*best estimate*it appears to be affecting between 3 and 5 percent of our players.* If you aren't one of them that number may sound small, but if it affects you, the percentage frankly doesn't matter to you, it feels like 100 percent.

We are fortunate that*this*evening we are getting access to a computer that is exhibiting this behavior and right now it is being driven over to our development studio so we can examine it and understand what is happening with our diagnostic tools.* As many of you noted, at first we looked for commonality of operating system or video card, but as reports are coming in, no common hardware or OS*element is clear.

We are confident that if we can experience it and diagnose it we can come up with a workaround.* How fast we can get that workaround to you depends a lot on what the problem actually is.* We'll dive in and I'll keep you updated.* Our hope is to get you back and playing as soon as possible.

Thanks very much for your support and patience.

    Jeff

    Same for me

    Vista 64, AMD 64, Nvidia 9600 GT, 8gig memory

Level 3 after a few waves slows to a crawl. Changing resolution or entering full screen or windows mode or low quality does nothing. Tons of free ram and CPU cores not past 60% use.

I have the latest drivers and play tons of 3D games without issue from EQ2, LOTRO, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4/World at War etc... so this is not anything on my system.

Not meaning to point fingers but if all these advanced 3D games work just fine then it clearly is not on our systems. BTW I get no sound from the guns either... not sure if they should but I hope so... silent guns seems strange. BTW please consider putting on an option for a health bar over the units as in other games... having to click on each unit to see how much health they have is silly.

Great game... tons of potential but, alas, $20 for 5 mins of play is too much

I hope you find the issue soon as I love these types of games... so much so that I plopped down my $20 without even waiting for a review.

    -JB

Update: Running in XP mode does nothing.

    Not sure if it's related,

Not sure if it's related, but I was using the version through Steam, fyi.

    Same Issue. ATI HD4800

Same Issue. ATI HD4800 Graphics Card, 4 gigs of memory, updated the video driver as well. Windows XP, 32 bit version. Game knocks me out right after the slow down and once it actually disabled my video driver. Also getting a crash on the first level, and I've already had to change my 5.1 surround sound speaker settings to accommodate the games inability to handle them...frankly, I'm starting to get pretty frustrated. Hope you guys can fix these issues as the game does seem fun when it's running.

    Update #1

The slowdown (at least on this machine that is behaving similar to yours) is definitely coming from the audio engine.

    *

We have a simple workaround for you to try (for the moment) that should get you back up and running if your computer is experiencing the same problem.* I would love to hear back from you to know if this addresses your problem or not.*

    *

We are observing that on the machine that has this slowdown, that the audio settings in the Windows Control panel are set to some type of surround setting.* When we change the audio setting in Windows to simply stereo, we see this problem in the game go away.

    *

We're going to work on fixing surround sound so that it doesn't bog down for people that are having this problem and work on an update.* But at least on our test machine here, switching your Windows audio setting to stereo gets you back up and running.

    *

Please let me know if this works for you or if it does not.

    *

    Thanks,

    *

    *

    Jeff

    Turning it to stereo fixes

Turning it to stereo fixes it for me and I even get the gun sounds now. I paid dearly for 5.1 surround sound so I pray you get this fixed
