    Last Stand Grinder mode High Scores

    I've hit the wall with this mode. I can get about a million resources by the end, putting me at about the 50th high score, but I cant get much further.

    How are they getting these high scores? Are they juggling? Is it a super long maze? Mine is very long, though I wonder if that helps much after a bit...

    Any help is appreciated (and yes I think some of those scores are legitimate.

    The score in first is cheated, my score is a legit 2nd. Oh wait, I'm in 1st now. The other score doesn't seem to be there.
    Yeh, it's manipulating paths causing minimal spending and maximum resource interest.
    Wave 99 mob are worth a mere 40 resource per kill, same as every other wave.
    There comes a point where spending resources to kill anything costs you too much in the long run, even spending 1k at wave 40 will cost you 70k in interest in the long run, unless you can kill 25 additional mobs from that one upgrade in 2 minutes then it wasn't worth it.

    I've trimmed it to only 2

    I've trimmed it to only 2 kill zones...and it seems that I get higher scores by far if I just post these 2 kill zones without any detour at all, until wave 70 or so...then I start laying down gun towers, and upgrade a few more concussions in a 3rd kill zone area.

    I've tried big huge detours, but this results in way lower scores for some reason...so it's juggling (erase a tower, post a tower in another area) that get's the higher scores?
    Sorry to be dense...any help is greatly appreciated.

    I only have one kill zone. Yeh debuild a tower and then block there current path with another tower, it's called path manipulation, you force them to keep going through the kill zone. I think they should fix it tho. It makes the game less fun, been awhile since i've played.
    Also upgrading gun towers is pretty useless, only temp, inferno and concussion are any good.
    At wave 99 i have 1000+ aliens running my maze, it lags my computer so much that it's hard to debuild and build, nvidia 8800 and 2gb ram.

    I think they have it addressed, because as I understand it, you stop gaining interest at the 99th wave, so basically, you want to get as many points as possible before those final waves....if you have a bunch of aliens in your maze and you stop gaining interest, then you've lost all the interest that you would have gained, had you killed the aliens earlier.
    I'm actually getting less points trying it this way... I wish I could see the map you are using....

    They didn't address it. Yeh interest stops at 99 but the aliens in my maze are worth 40k tops, if they are all accumulated from wave 85-100 that's 40-80k tops lost from interest. Like i said, you spend 1k at wave 40 and in the long run it will cost you 70k. So i gain way more by not bothering with them.

    yeah, I see what you mean. I've spent the last couple of days working on this, and finally broke 1.2 million...not very fun at all, just tedious.
    I had much more fun when I hit 1 million without manipulating their path, upgrading at just the right moment, with my 2 kill zones.
    Meh...I dont think it's worth the time.
    My maze was very sparse...didnt really manipulate them till way late in the game...and the lameness of my maze made getting through 80-99 very tough.
    Thanks for the help though (still would really like to see your maze).

    Wow that helped a lot!

    Wow that helped a lot! (THANK YOU!) Made it a LOT less tedious, since there is so much room between the two ends.
    Lvl 99 takes FOREVER...do you create more towers then to destroy them since the interest isnt accumulating, or do you just play it out (boring...)?

    All they'd have to do to fix the maze manipulation is put a time limit on the maze, with a bonus in points for the time left after all aliens are destroyed...that would make high scores possible only with fast play throughs, but perhaps with a little manipulation....

    You'd still manipulate tho

    You'd still manipulate tho to make em go back through an even bigger kill zone ensuring you can wipe em out very quickly.
    They need to add locked paths when the aliens leave and grab the cores after wave 5, and 30 second debuild.
    I think that would help.

    Do you build any yellow towers?
    I tried a run with only 2 flamers and it bogged my machine down so bad (i7 920 GTX 260) it was a frame by frame slideshow by lvl 85...none of the aliens had died...heh. bad mistake.

    Throw me a bone!

    I've been trying every possible combination of towers, in varying stages of upgrade, but cant seem to break 1.6 million. I'm missing something obvious and it's driving me insane! Mokn you've helped me a lot! Thanks! (is there any other tips you can give me?) RM

    You should only be playing

    You should only be playing upto wave 40 untill you have 20k+ resource at the checkpoint. There's no point to keep playing as the big scores are made during the early stages.
    At the following checkpoints you should have above the following or load last checkpoint.
    wave 20 2500
    wave 30 8000
    wave 40 20000

    Slowly build the maze, you don't need a big maze for the earlier waves.
    You got to manipulate paths from the start don't build to kill them as that wastes resources and interest.

    Wow! OK, that helps. I dont usually hit 20,000 until wave 45, and at wave 40 I have 11,000 at the most.
    Generally, I have the entire maze built by that time and 2 red towers......My thinking was that the 25 resources I lose when I build a gun tower and then delete it was better spent in a permanent gun tower in the maze....back to the drawing board. Thank you!

    ...that link wont load either ..................You've sent me in a completely different direction with the points per stage. I stayed up trying new things last night and got completely away from my one kill zone. Juggling between 2 kill zones got me 1.6 million, which is a huge jump. I had been stuck on using one green command tower (for some reason I had better scores with a greeen than a red one), but this new theory has no command towers.

    Wow that is so different

    Wow that is so different from what I came up with....havent tried your design but will give it a go this weekend. Great music btw....and great maze! I hadnt tried the killzone there in my early design, but in the middle instead.
    My double killzone maze idea got me 1.9....and has me thinking in a whole new direction.

    It seems that command towers dont give enough back....do you use them in your new design?
