    Hard lockout

I am getting hard lockouts that require a reset of the system. I have looked through the forum trying to find a resolution or answer. It usually happens early on in a level when not much is happening. This started on the 'Standing Order' level. Direct X was updated to the March 09 version.

    Here is the dxdiag results........

Sorry for the delay in responding

    Hi,

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been on the road for a while.* Typically we've seen one source for hard locks that get reported and it is overheating of the video card.* Make sure you have the needed ventilation for your computer case and card since Defense Grid tends to utilize video cards more than you might expect and more than many games due to the number of objects, effects, and shader instructions we use.* The fact you say it*takes place when not much is happening is concerning it could be something else, but we're not aware of anything that would cause this and your DxDiag looks quite clean.

    Jeff, this all started with

    Jeff,

this all started with the Standing Order level. The ventilation is good as no other games lockup like this.

Now when I play on any completed level it locks up. Previous levels with the onslaught of aliens have run fine, with all guns and explosions going off. I can be playing a level for say 5 mnutes and then lockout, with not much action, just starting to put the towers down.

I am confused why it would start this with little action when previous levels with full action have run fine.

    confused as well

I don't know about the specifics of what you are seeing - they don't tie to anything we're aware of.* The "after 5 minutes" it locks up behavior has been seen to tie to video cards that are overheating.

    You have seen the graphics

You have seen the graphics card I have, could that be an issue in itself?

    system specs

Actually I'm glad you called out the DXDiag above, I missed it the first time or forgot that I had looked at it a while ago.* I'm very sorry about that.

You are playing on the very minimum system that I think we support.

When it comes to video card you have*the lowest we support on the Nvidia side.* Your 6200 should play the game, but it is the lowest card that will support the game.*

On the CPU side you also have the lowest we support.* Your AMD Athlon while 2.1 GHz is a mobile version and is unfortunately slower than many 1.8 Ghz processors.*

Again, the game should work on your computer, but it does turn out that you are literally playing the game on the very lowest computer we support.* Perhaps there is something that is happening that wasn't caught in testing either on our side or in our most recent testing with Aspyr, but we're still not aware of anything that should be causing you hard locks.*

If I was in your shoes, I think*the first thing*I'd try to do is make sure the very least number of other programs are running at the same time on my computer as the game.

Otherwise, looking through your DxDiag, it appears quite clean.

Sorry I'm not more helpful, I'm really not sure what your issue is here.

Not sure where you got the

Not sure where you got the 'mobile' from, this is a full desktop chip. I also run 2ghz and 1.8ghz. I am looking to upgrade my computer completely, but that costs money I don't have right now. It may just be that the 'minimum specs' are tripping the computer up, but with little action gong, it is a headscratcher.

Nice little game anyway and hopefully I will have a new rig as soon as I can afford it.

Thanks for your help Jeff. :-)

    mobile version

Interesting, when I looked it up from the DxDiag, the result I got was "mobile" cpu.* Likely an error in the database I used.* Sorry about that.
