Not able to launch on Windows 7

Hello,

I have played D Grid for a while on Windows xp. I recently replaced my motherboard, processor, and Video Card and now am running the release candidate for Windows 7. I believe all my drivers are updated for the video cards and Sound cards and I have gone to the Direct x link given by one of the previous Forums to download the most updated version of Direct x. How do I get D grid to run!

I have been playing the game for ages under Win7 Beta and RC1 without any issues. After the recent forced updated to Defense Grid from Steam the game no longer works ay all. I get the message "Defense Grid: The Awakening failed to start (error code 51)". Looks to me like poor testing of the update...

I've been running it in Win 7 RC1 with no problems either (until the update yesterday on Steam).

Yesterday, there's no sound, and the NPC voice seems to be gone also. There's another thread about yesterday's update.

Works here with Win7 RTM. No sound obviously after the patch though.

By now, you likely know what took place.* The update we put on Steam only partially downloaded to players from Friday through Tuesday, and for some people they just lost audio, for other people the game didn't work at all.*


The fact that anything worked at all* is surprising since you had some files from one version of the game mixed with files from the latest version of the game.


Additionally, we did a couple of things we shouldn't have done - first we put out the update on a Friday - a true no-no that we should have avoided as we have in the past, but we were simply too confident that this update was benign and was going to be a positive experience.


Secondly, we at the last minute got the opportuntiy to show Defense Grid XBLA at Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend and we were AFK for most of the time until Tuesday.


Two wrongs - don't release on Friday and then don't live offline for the days that follow.*


For those two things I greatly apologize on behalf of Hidden Path Entertainment.


Fortunately, the fix was quickly determined (people weren't getting all of the update) and remedied (full update now downloading) on Tuesday, and all should be good in the world now (including world peace I've been told).


Thanks so much for your patience and support through this.* We screwed up, but hopefully now you have a better game experience.

i got the same ""Defense Grid: The Awakening failed to start (error code 51)"
message. Now is there a plan to fix this?

So error code 51 is a*Steam error code and not a Defense Grid error code.* It means*most likely the ClientRegistry.blob file in your Steam directory has been corrupted.* Delete that file, and Steam will create a new one and you should be fine.
