Out of Fuel -- Green Towers Only

So I beat my head against the Green Towers Only challenge on Out Of Fuel for a few hours yesterday, and the best I managed was still few hundred points away from a gold medal.


I decided to check the XBLA leaderboards to see how many people had hit the gold medal point threshold, and how many towers they'd typically used. But -- according the leaderboard, *nobody* has managed to reach gold at all!


Is it even possible? If not even one person has managed it yet, perhaps the bar is set too high?


Or, perhaps everyone is just stupid, and missing the correct strategy. Dunno

I got a high rank on the pc version but it is one of the toughest maps.

You didn't say where you get stuck tho, are you having to build too much at a point?

Anyway for the last 3 crashers build a temporal just before the crashers come and make it hit the last crasher, this will split them up.

When the flyers come and the crashes have the cores, most the main guns will ignore the flyers which makes it hard.

The middle area 2 lots of 4 squares should be 1 temporal upper right and 3 cannons each. The first lot of squares to the right should have meteor so it also hit the enemies at the cores.

The pathway where your 6 middle area cannons are aiming then they go around the bend should have 2 temporals and inferno and cannons.

You must be thinking of a different map -- this one's before you get cannons.
And I'm not getting stuck and failing it -- I have golds on every challenge mode for that map, except for the "green towers only" challenge, which is only available on the 360 version. I can silver it no problem, but the gold is apparently eluding everyone.

It is one of the hardest challenge modes to do, but it is doable.* I'm told there is one person with gold on the leaderboards now.

Ah yeh, just tried the out of fuel one, heh really tough I was 400 short, the main problem is the racers and walkers. racers have no counter, i had 4 temporals on the 6 blocks near the cores and it doesn't do much as they seem to slip through, and the walkers need lots of firepower. Any meteors become weak as they arn't bunched up

One thing i did notice is you must have a score going back at wave 14 so the crasher takes it and splits them up, then your gun get more usage and the crashers get killed. If it wasn't for the racers it'd be fine, the meteor towers all attack the racers by themself and the big group of enemies just walk on by.

At first build 3 guns and use them for the first few waves i'll try get a screeny of the setup.

You need actually need both crashers to grab cores on there way out and head down, i had to debuild my temporal so it didn't slow them down and they both grabbed a core, then i rebuilt it once they both had one, i also switched 2 gun towers in the top section to inferno's all that cost me 100+ score. It is a bit luck based.

The 2 bottom temporals are only built at wave 14.

Actually you don't need to the inferno's build an extra gun down the bottom.

After I read this thread 2 days ago I thought it would be easy

Now after 3-5h of this annoying map I finally got the gold medal. First I was couple hundred points away, then 117points away, then 1! (30999) and after a small tweak I got 31035 and I'm fourth in the board.

In my opinion this is quite far from having to do with only skill, it's a matter of luck. In my last attempt I got the last 2 strong creeps splitted so that the _second_ one only took cores and the first one went to the core node with already taken quite some damage. This meant that they both died quite accidently and needed less effort and I needed less mortals.

... could someone please post a solution to this map!?!?!? I've been playing this level for about 4 hours a day for the past 3 weeks, even more on the weekends. I've tried every possible combination of towers I could think of. I've tried mokn's map to a T. I've tried splitting the crashers up, I've tried keeping them together, I've tried selling the first temporal, I've tried adding guns at the end, infernos at the begining, I've tried playing with the fast forward to get in a few extra hits.

Either the last crasher walks out with a sliver of health left or I come up short by about 100 resources. What in gods name is the solution? I've gotten gold on everything else. I've come to the conclusion I'm not smart enough to figure this one out. If someone could please just hold my hand and step me through this so that I can put this game down and move on with my life.

I finally beat it, and with about 4 points to spare. That's the last gold I needed, and I was about ready to give up. Thanks for the map!

Beating that one on gold also got me the Master Strategist achievement, which is a lot more work after the DLC was added!

I beat this map on all challanges with no probs whatsoever. Problem is i dont see a 'green towers only' challange! Am i missing something, like a patch????.... i dont see any patches available for download!!!!!

Also stuck on this one. When I check the leaderboard I see people with 40 towers... and I only see 32 spots. Different map on Xbox or something?

I am playing the PC version and I starting to think its impossible to get gold on this one. I pressed backspace or chose continue and built other combinations of towers after going back. I tried almost everything. I actually played this map the entire day now witouth being sucessfull.



I figured out that I need over 1200 resourses left when I finished building my last building and the two big red ones are about to enter the stage, to get enough points for a gold medal.

Dealing damage on the levels before to make the red ones split up to, so that the second one go up seems to be the most effective way of dealing damage on them.



But no matter how I build it seems like I have one gun tower to much to get enough score. If I dont build it, one of the fast ones or a big one will get through. 54975 is my personal best, and I need 55000 to get a gold medal.



I want to know if its actually possible to complete this challenge on the PC version before I try it again! Its not fun anymore.

All towers built are counted, even those that are later sold. So if someone builds a gun, then sells it to place a cannon there, the game counts two different guns.

It's possible to get gold on ALL levels because I've gotten Gold on everything and I'm just waiting for a second game or more DLC. You just got to mess with your towers and your Resources a bit. I used a combination of Lasers, Meteors, Guns, and Temporals.
