Install-from-disc and Steam version conflating progress

I had the CD version of Defense Grid installed on my PC, played it, and it was lots of fun. When it went on Uber-Sale on Steam, I picked it up just to play with the achievements (the boy - he loves the achievements). When I first started up the Steam version, it recorded some achievements for progress I had made, but not others.

We've played through and achieved many things, but I can't tell which levels Steam thinks I've received silver or gold medals on, and which it hasn't seen yet. Is there any way for me to tell which medals Steam thinks I've won, and which it thinks I have yet to achieve? I don't want to play through every level again AGAIN if I don't have to.

    Multiple thoughts

    Hi,

I have a few different thoughts for you.

First off,*you*purchased the CD of the game and*received the offline version of the game - which does track achievements locally*under it's "achievements button" on the main menu bringing up a list of acheivements you have received (on Steam this brings up the Steam client showing the achievements). It also*highlight the medals you've achieved on the bottom right side of the map selection screen when the "medals" tab is selected.* If a medal is grayed out - you don't have it, if it is full color you do!*

Secondly, when you bought the CD version of the game, we included a free Steam code on the manual in case you wanted to have your scores compared to others online.* So, you already had one Steam code and you purchased another.* Feel free to give the unused one to a friend if you want.

When you install the Steam version of the game it actually installs a separate version of the game that doesn't know about the fully offline one at all and doesn't share any info between them.* We're sorry about that, but trying to do so would open up a lot of cheating possibilities.

So, you can see what medals you've earned in either of the two sepearate installs of the game by looking at the medals lists per level & mode on the bottom right part of the screen when you are selecting a map and mode.

You can see what achievements you have when you push the achievements button on the main page - though the behavior is different between the two games - the offline game*shows you a list, the connected game takes you to your Steam profile which stores that list.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Huh. I never noticed the achievements button on the main menu on the CD version before, nor the Steam activation. Wow; score one for cluelessness.

I'll stick to the Steam achievements going forward, and would like to know which levels I still need to achieve silver or gold. On my Steam stats page, it lists lots of stats about what I've done, including the count of levels. Is there any way I can get a list of levels/scores that Steam knows about?

    Medals stored locally

To my knowledge there isn't a list of levels with medals.

On either version,*all you need to do is*just need to look at each level on the menu selection screen and then look at the bottom right medals section.* If the Bronze, Silver, and/or Gold medal shown on the list is full color you have received it.* While looking at a single level you can scroll vertically through all the modes, the medals will update both with the color if they have been achieved and with the requirements that are needed to get that medal on that mode and map.*
