Unable to launch game on ASUS N10Jc notebook

I purchased and downloaded the Steam version of Defense Grid (DG) today, and spent some hours playing it on my desktop. No problem.

Trying to launch it on my laptop (an ASUS N10Jc with, 2Gb RAM, an nVidia 9300M GS graphics card and an overclocked N270 Atom running at 2.0 GHz in Windows 7), the screen appears to momentarily resize itself for a different resolution and then go black as though the game is starting - then I'm dumped back into Steam (if launching from the client) or the desktop (if using a desktop shortcut).

The system meets the advertised minimum specs, and I actually purchased the game with every intention of playing it on the notebook, so am pretty disappointed. I haven't encountered this problem with any other Steam game on this computer. Can anyone please offer some advice as to what may be causing this problem and how to resolve it?

    Thanks.

Can you send me a DXDiag output?* Send it to info <at> hiddenpath .com.**I suspect*drivers and/or audio hardware, but we'll see.

    Thanks!

    Thanks, sent.

I am less certain that drivers are responsible, but wondered whether it's possible to force a given resolution (e.g. 800 x 600) with command-line flags to ensure that the game's not trying to open up at a resolution which the laptop's panel cannot display.

Re: Unable to launch game on ASUS N10Jc notebook

    Thanks very much, Jeff,

As per your e-mail response, I edited the config.ini file and changed 1024 x 768 to a known 'safe' full-screen setting of 800 x 600. This allowed the game to open up, at which point I used the game's interface to change the settings to the netbook's native resolution of 1024 x 600.

The game worked like a charm after that. Now the only thing needed is to build in support for the 'Steam Cloud' so players don't have to replay all their Awakening missions on each platform in order to get back to where they were up to.

    Thanks again.
