    Grey screen video issue

    I've been going through all of the forum post but I have been unsuccessful in finding someone with a similar issue and solution. Today i purchased Defense Grid Gold on Impluse. The game loads fine but as soon as I start a mission the map displays as a gray screen. I can move my mouse I can see subtitles. Only the map is gray. I saw similar post that talked about a patch but I can't seem to locate a patch that will work. Please help.

    Defense Grid: Gold has all the latest patches in it already.* What service*did you buy Gold from and what kind of video card are you running the game on?

    I purchased Defense Grid from Stardock and I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT video card

    If you have already updated your drivers, go ahead and send us your DXdiag.txt output file from running dxdiag on your computer.* We can take a look and see if anything pops out about the drivers.* It sounds like something is conflicting with the game.

    Thank you for your help. It seems that my GPU has failed on me. I believe that this may have been the problem. Once my new GPU arrives and I install it I run the game and see if it works. Hopefully this solves my problem. Thank you again.

    Gray Screen Issue

    I just got the game and installed through steam. On every level I try and with all different graphic settings (high, low, medium, window, fullscreen), I get the same error as Torsen. I have all the writing on screen and subtitles and sound works, and click things but it seems that there is fog on the entire screen.

    I am running Nvidia Geforce GTX 470 with Intel i7 930 with Windows 7 64 bit professional. I attached a screenshot with the game in a window showing the error.

    I'd like to play the game and it seems that you've known about this problem for awhile so hopefully there is a fix

    Likely this is a video driver issue. Try updating your card to the latest driver from NVidia if you haven't already. Additionally, run dxdiag.exe on your computer, and send the output test file to us here using info <at> hiddenpath .com, and we can take a look at it.

    Jeff, I updated the drivers and still have the same issue. I ran dxdiag and emailed it to you. Let me know if there is anything that can be done to fix it.

    Hi,

    Here is what our engineer who researched the problem says:

    For users that have this problem, could you ask them to go into the video settings and change the settings to Low and then restart the game? If I recall correctly, there were a few cases in which video cards reported a shader support version, but lied to us about it and they didn’t really work.

    If these users change to Low and everything works fine, have them change to Medium or High.

    Also, please have them check the following folders on their hard drive:
    <DG install folder>\Shaders There should be 9 .nsb files in here.
    <DG install folder>\Shaders\Common There should be 17 .hlsl files in here.
    <DG install folder>\Shaders\Generated There should be 4 .cache files in here. (We don’t ship these files, they are generated.)

    Since we do have generated files, it’s possible that if the user’s machine is locked down tightly (especially on Win7) the DG app my not have write permissions to the drive location. Ask the user to run the app as an administrator, or to copy the entire app tree from a location that is not in “Program Files” or “Program Files (x86)”.

    If you have the Gray screen issue, let us know if the restarts work, if the files are all there, or if running as administrator makes a difference.
