Map Maker DLC + Map Share?
Have you folk at Hidden Path considered this option before? It would benefit not only the players, but you all as well. More money in your pockets, and endless fun for players.
Defense Grid definitely needs a broader niche 'modding' community alongside your great fun additional map packs.
It's up to you how much you'd charge for the DLC, but no one is going to complain if it's around 250-400MS points, or $3-$7 on Windows.
I suppose an issue that would probably be pointed out if a map maker was available to download is that people would stop downloading your extra map packs? Well, just incorporate unlockable items (which aren't vanilla set) within the map maker, that require the player to have downloaded any of the extra map packs that the item is from. And when the player creates the map, the map is not downloadable for people who don't have any of the extra maps the player created map requires. Maybe section 'premium' created content maps in a certain section of the Map Share menu.
Anyone got thoughts on this topic?

Hi Xan,
It is the #1 requested feature and something we'd very much like to do. It turns out that there are significant technical and legal obstacles in our way between where the game is now and our ability to do this. But, as we think about the future, it is foremost in our minds.

Now if there were a Defense Grid 2 in the works, then perhaps it might not be using GameBryo under the hood which would remedy this issue. If for example it were using the Source Engine, which Hidden Path is familiar with because of their work on the last CS:S update.
Maybe I'm reading tea-leaves, but I just have to wonder...
