    Woah... that's hard

You Monster seems impossible to me, was really looking forward to more defense grid but having just spent an hour losing pathetically on the first level, I've lost the will to play.

The original game was well paced, this just seems like an exercise in pathing trial and error and memorising exactly what each wave composition is.

Maybe I'll try again when I'm not drunk.

Ya the first level nailed me too last night. But then I kinda got the hand of it and spanked it in about 40 min this morning.

    Angry

You monster is definitely a fail, for me. When I saw that a new DLC pour Defense Grid was available, that was Glados-based, I immediately order it.

If I knew it would be that hard, I would not have bought it.

I tried to beat the first level for 3 hours, without success. Defense Grid was a great game with a great learning curve / difficulty increase. Portal and Portal 2 : the same: great learning curve, and not very difficult.

So I thought that Defense Grid + Portal would also have the same qualities. But it doesn't !

I gave up trying to beat the _FIRST_ level ! This is something wrong for your game. Of course, if it was marketed as being for DG expert only, I would not complain. But come on, what I liked about DG was that the levels was beatable, but to achieve the highest rank (medals), you will have to try again and again some strategies.

With "You Monster", I struggle to beat the very first single level (and failed !). I am sorry but I got no pleasure playing this game. Maybe that's me, who is a terrible player (I certainly am), but the difficulty should have been mentioned on the store page.

(hopefully, 4dnamuse is still working, but it is really no fun (seriously))

I was quite shocked at how steep the difficulty level was straight away but finished them all with a bronze medal. Don't know if i can be bothered to go back and go for gold like i did with the previous DLC levels as i didn't enjoy playing You Monster really.

    I'm rubbish

I'm not that good at DG (check the boards!), but I managed to get golds on the first 3 levels without too much of a problem, and I'm not very bright.
My main gripe is, IT KEEPS CRASHING.

I'm certainly hoping that this isn't the last DG DLC we see. Portal and GLaDOS appeal to a specific set of people, and I know a few folks that aren't buying this DLC because of that. Beyond that, yes, it's really hard. On a difficulty curve I'd have to grade these in the High A's. This is one of the hardest packs I've played, and some of that is due to GLaDOS cheating.

Yes its hard. But it is beatable. Just dont take it personal.

I mean you do realize that its really a puzzle game and not a strategy game.

So, really you just have to figure out the puzzle. And cheat if you have to. LoL

I mean on Level one, I had my set up pretty good, but by the last two waves I was shuffeling two guns, and changing the way the aliens could get out of the map. So they would be almost to the "end" and Id close it off and open another way, and the would have to go all the way through the map again. LoL, poor suckers. but I won. And level two, that was pretty easy really. Level three beat me up good. The sudden bum rush across the bottom of the map, I half expeced knowing what sort of individual Glados is. but Hey, I love the cake, ya know !

So I expect her to cheat and lie and I expect me to win. Eventually. LoL.

I had a really hard time with this one. 3-4 hours, and I only made it through wave 18 or 19 on the first level -- and this is before any of the levels where GLaDOS takes over. Either I'm really rusty at playing DG, or this is next to impossible. Or I just stink; I haven't ruled that one out.

So what strategies do work? Any hints? Because I feel like a salmon swimming upstream, and the current is way beyond my ability to swim.

    My way.

I concentrated my firepower just below the cores, with temporal and command towers. Hope that helps.
I'm a relative novice, and this may sound obvious, but in my limited experience, if you're struggling to beat a level, it usually means your strategy is completely wrong!

The third level is way (and I mean a LOT) easier. I managed to get the gold medal (history and challenge history) at my first try. But I still fail the first level. For me, You Monster is very bad balanced. The first level should either be made easier, or the order of the levels should be re-arranged. (probably impossible due to narrative history).

It seems I am not alone to fail on the first level.

(Birdorf : thank for sharing your strategy, I will try it someday)

I think the first ones are hardest if you don't use multiple tower types and just try to use one or two tower types. Try using Teslas, Temporals, Meteors, Cannons, lasers, Infernos, concussions, command pretty much all of them. Teslas are very good against shields. Concussions and Infernos are very good against a lot of enemies in one place especially when combined near a temportal. Cannons are best against boss aliens, Lasers are good against fast aliens, meteors are great ways to keep hitting aliens over a large area, especially if they are firing at an area that has temporals to keep a lot of aliens gathered together there. Command towers visualize stealthy aliens and also give you extra score bonus when near an intense killing zone. You can do it!

Well, I (finally !) succeded, using Birdorf strategy. I also beat the second and third level with gold. I loved the 2nd and third levels !

Strangely enough, after the beating you take early on in the game, and all the curve balls you have to put up with, the last two levels are just like good ol DG. And your able to smack the crap outta Glados fairly easily.

Same thoughts. Start of the game is tough, but, it softens with the next levels. So far I did not fail a single level (two to go), but failed at the first one a zillion times.

See, this is why I like forums. When I'm getting frustrated pounding my head against a wall, it makes me feel just a little bit better knowing I'm not alone.

I'll have to try the Birdorf Strategy (tm). Most of my firepower was concentrated towards the exit, which is typical for me -- by the time I have enough money to build up a force, the enemies are on their way out -- hopefully I can get enough built earlier in the path.

The trick is that you need to use more of the command towers than before.

Wow! I finally played and finished "You Monster" Campaign. Bought it day one, but wanted to finish up the Borderlands and Resurgence Campaigns first, and by finish up I mean squeak by a victory on story mode any way possible! As it was I could only get a victory on the last Resurgence map in 40k mode. Tough!

The first mission in You Monster, is extremely tough! I got a good victory with Poison Core, and tried story mode again using the strategy I used with poison core. I made it with one core left and only by juggling that core between towers away from the alien rush! I wondered if the rest of the missions would be this hard...fortunately, they were hard but not as hard as the first one.

GlaDos is great as usual, and I liked the switch-up of rules etc. goes perfectly with that brat! At first you see what's happening and you're like "What? Oh no you di'nt!", then after a little bit you're like, "Oh I can do this...I think.". Good missions, fun story. I like that the cores are "weighted companion cubes" too.

Jeff, if you read this, I'd just like to say that I'd really appreciate some 20k/40k challenges on the You Monster missions! Maybe you folks could consider that for a future update. Thanks, and good job!
