I appreciate all the feedback you give, but I'm not filled with confidence because there are threads dating from the middle of 2010 reporting the achievement problem. It's a real shame because this is/was one of the best games I've played in years.
Just thought I would post about what I have seen since downloading You Monster for Xbox. I did not follow the steps outlined in the post.
The main problem I have is the Achievement problem. But for some reason I was able to get the "Savant Genius" achievement but no others at this point. This seems strange because why would one achievement work while the others do not? Something worth investigating in my opinion.
I have had two updates for the game since I downloaded You Monster and I'm not sure either has installed. If I am not fast enough the update box crashes and I get sent to the dashboard. When I did click the update button I think it updated but when the game restarted it crashed the first time and sent me to the dashboard and froze my Xbox the second time forcing me reboot.
Hey I just signed up upon finding this thread.
Firstly, love DG, just got round to playing You Monster, and with each achievement it brings up the error message detailed previously.
However, it still registers the gold medal? So if I dont get the achievement now thats no problem, but I will be kinda very very annoyed if I have to go back and gold medal everything again to get the achievements when its fixed.
Should I hold off playing until a fix, or once its fixed will any gold medals be backdated, if you know what I mean

Yes, all reports we have from players indicate that all medals are still achievable even though the achievement not able to be awarded message comes up.
You are correct that the problem has nothing to do with the DLC package. We were able to confirm that early on. And the game had to go through a required update to be able to play the content, and that's where things get tricky regardless of whether or not you own the DLC. We believe (but can't be sure since there is no way to test) that the update isn't the problem either, but the back-end database of achievements on Xbox LIVE is itself the issue. That issue causes error messages to pop up when they shouldn't and sometimes a double press of B is needed to remove them rather than just a single press of B.
That all said, we understand that people are able to get all acheivements when playing You Monster, they just have the annoying pop-ups, and in some cases also have to wait longer at the loading screen than they used to in order to make sure all assets are loaded before proceeding.
Also, as always, we're willing to give Xbox players affected by this issue Steam codes for what they've purchased on Xbox.

Uh! I didn't get this point... I'm not sure it's very clear to other players as well, since I know other people who didn't download the DLC because of that (and, like me, own all previous DLCs).

Well, to be fair, some people are seeing freeze ups on load which is a much larger issue than pop-ups, but again, they'd see those issues with or without the DLC. Happy to help support you. Our goal is for you to have a fun time with our games.

To be honest... I've been waiting a long time for this problem with Defense Grid on the xbox to be fixed. I keep checking the game about once a month. I really like this game however, in its current state it is unplayable. I paid for the game and all of its DLC. At this point, I am considering this game a loss. I will NOT purchase any more games from your company. I have no confidence that you either won't fix them or screw them up with an update.
I think you're missing a key point here. Our company badly wants to fix this problem and is actively prevented from doing so by the folks at Microsoft (and not all the folks there by the way, just a subset that is in control of this issue). I think that puts it succinctly. It also appears to us that the problem is not a game code issue, but is an issue with Microsoft's service (hence the reason they aren't letting us address it).
On Steam we have no such problem. On Steam we have much more control and access to the content. On Steam we are more in control of your experience, and if this problem was happening on Steam, I'm pretty confident we would be able to fix it.
The net result is that we want to fix it and can't and Microsoft has stopped talking to us about it. I truly and honestly wish that there was something we could do to change the situation.
What we can do is give you a copy of the game that works fine on another platform and we are happy to do that, just email us at info <at> hiddenpath <dot> com and we'll get you a Steam code.
We are frustrated too, and obviously we don't want you to be frustrated, we want you playing and having fun, that's what we signed up to do, make games that are fun for people. I wish we had it in our power to fix the situation - we have definitely made every effort with Microsoft.
Hey, I didn't know about You Monster until today, and bought the DLC on the Xbox (for 400 points). You can guess what brought me to this thread.
So I called Microsoft support, and explained the problem with freezing during loading of the game, and the achievement error popups. I said I had investigated the problem on the developer forums, found out it was a known issue, and stated the developer said that a game patch will not be forthcoming.
I got transferred to a "specialist," who after hearing my story refunded my points. I wasn't abusive on the phone, or even irate, just calmly and completely explained everything to the best of my knowledge, so this may be an avenue for the rest of you with these problems to try.
Silver lining - got the game and DLC on Steam, which is on sale today!
Glad to hear they refunded you. Obviously we would prefer if they'd just let us work with them to fix the problem.

I am the same problem everyone else does. It has even transferred to my new xbox slim (star wars edition which btw is surprisingly cool). It seems to follow your gamertag account. I think something is lost in the transfer of info from one account to another.
Anyhow, I have been playing DG a fair bit and it has crashed in the most frustrating places IE level 99 of super grinder (DO NOT accelerate your game if you are near the end of a level and it is full of critters. It seems to crash more often if you do )
I do still get the award error but , in general , it does not crash hard anymore. As in , it does not lock up. I dont know why but there you go.
Details on how I got to this :
Old xbox 360 disc drive was totally flaky so I got a new slim after getting all the achievements Except the portal ones. I have not bought it yet.
I bought DG with one gamertag id but got all the achievements with a different gamertag id. The purchasing ID is American and the playing one is Canadian (because if you buy a points card in the US it will not work for a Canadian ID, nice eh ? )
I turn off the power bar when I shut it down. So if it crashed on me I just killed the power in anger.
I am tempted to do two things.
1) buy the port monster levels and see if it is worse.
2) play though with the American gamertag and see if that makes it worse. I get the feeling that it is trying to give you the award but can because you already have it, so if you dont have it maybe it will be satiated by giving it to someone else.... ?
