Defense Grid Stopped working, will not start up (Win/Steam)

I click "play" button, the gui gives a pop-up that says launching Defense Grid or something similar for a second or so, then the screen flashes with a partial re-size of the Steam window, and flashes away, with no game start-up. Back to Steam window offering the "play" button again.
Clicking the button again produces similar results with game NOT launching successfully. I have played for many hours, and now it has stopped working. Once Windows popped up an info blob saying Windows would inform me when it solved the problem of the crash.

How can this be resolved? I have tried the delete "ClientRegistry.blob" fix, with no improvement.

Hmm, I'm not sure. It sounds like Steam isn't successfully running the game and it isn't clear if the game is being run or not. I might try "deleting all local content" and then reinstalling the game (I might back up my default.dgu save file just to be safe, but it should be automatically restored from Steam cloud saves).

On Steam under Defense Grid I see "Delete Local Content" but not "deleting all local content". Is that what you mean?

OK I completed the delete content operation, and installed DG again, attempted run, with same results.

I tried again with same results.

Then I exited Steam, clicked the desktop icon for DG.

It launched Steam and logged me in, then I got the "preparing to launch DG pop-up" then it begins to redraw a gui that seemed to not succeed pauses for a second or two, then the desktop image on my monitor flashes, and the lines drawn from the launch attempt just go away leaving just my desktop as it was, though Steam is still running with icon in sys-tray.

Basically the same behavior of a failed launch.

Yeah the icon and the play button do the same thing, so no surprise that the bahvior is the same. The issue you are having sounds like a steam issue. It could have been a DG issue, but it doesn't sound like it's getting there, and it doesn't sound like there is a problem with the install after you reinstalled it. I might next try uninstalling and reinstalling Steam, make sure you don't have a beta flag or offline on Steam for more than 5 days, and if those things don't help then I'd contact Steam. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    Ok,
    One more question.
How exactly do I verify I do not have a "beta flag or offline on Steam"?

    Thanks

Sure, In the steam client the first menu item at the top is "Steam" (i.e. Steam, View, Friends, Games, Help). Under steam there is a go offline / go online menu item. If it says go offline, then you're good, your're still online. Then go to settings, and verify on the Account tab that your "beta participation" is "not participating". Those two things can cause your steam to not behave as it normally might, but still shouldn't be causing what you are seeing.
