IGN: EDITOR'S CHOICE, 89%

"One of the best tower defense games is now one of the best XBLA games...The difficulty is tuned just right so that it will take several tries to survive later levels but you won't feel frustrated. A handy checkpoint system saves your progress during a battle. Should you lose the fight you can restart from the last checkpoint – or, just hit the "back" button to jump backwards in time at any moment. Defense Grid provides plenty action movie-like thrills where you are overrun by the enemy and yet somehow, against all odds, you pull through."

Team Xbox: EDITOR'S CHOICE 90%

"All told, Defense Grid: The Awakening is the pinnacle of design for tower-defense games, and not just because of its fancy Gamebryo-powered 3D graphics. It’s challenging and complex without breaking the same simple rules that all tower-defense games follow, even the most unsophisticated ones. Taking a simple yet classic game design, then adding depth and polish to it, is probably the purest way to make a great game. And Defense Grid: The Awakening is a great game."

GameFocus EDITOR'S CHOICE  90%

"But here comes Defense Grid: The Awakening from developer Hidden Path Entertainment, a classic tower defense game with some nice gameplay tweaks, fun voice over work and plenty of bang for your gaming buck."

Game Vortex: 95%

"Defense Grid is completely addictive, righteously aggravating, and impossible to dislike. Part casual game, part puzzle game, and always strategic, it is the thinking man's alternative to run-and-gun action or cutesy RPG fare. There's nothing quite like it on XBLA, and precious few ways in the world to get more entertainment for $10 that won't make you fat."

Digital Chumps: 92%

"The bottom line is that Defense Grid: The Awakening is one heck of a buy for $10. For anyone who has yet to venture into the Tower Defense genre of gaming, it provides a uniquely appealing style of RTS/puzzle gameplay that is sure to addict most everyone who gives it a go. Even if you’re already familiar with this type of game, Defense Grid is, quite simply, the state of the art. Its twenty-four levels and countless other variations on the theme (in the form of unlockable game modes) coupled with the obligatory online leaderboards and medals system are sure to keep you playing for many hours before you tire of the formula. And thanks to the bite-sized nature of the genre and the accessible mission retry system, there are very few reasons to resist a Defense Grid session. Speaking of which, I think I’ll return to my game now."

Beefjack: 92%

"What you’ll be getting with Defense Grid in terms of the tower defence genre, is the best there has ever been. There’s a massive array of enemies, towers all feel, act and are distinctively different, the art style is admirable and the scale of the battles actually comes off very epic at times."

GamePro: 90%

"Caution: Downloading Defense Grid: The Awakening could lead to laziness spent in front of the TV, video game addiction, desire to build a destructive tour and alien hatred. OK, those might not be all that bad, but one thing is for certain -- this title restores what you originally thought about tower defense games. With a little polish and a crew (Hidden Path Entertainment) who knows what it's doing, a masterpiece is born."

GamingBits: 90%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a must play game, whether you know about tower defense games or not. It's a well paced game that unfolds with many challenges and unique sci-fi environments, aliens and weaponry. Hidden Path Entertainment delivers hours of escape and challenge in Defense Grid: The Awakening."

360Junkies: 90%

"This game in the tower defense genre is a step above most others in the fact that gameplay, actually, is more than just placing units. The game makes player think about how to manipulate alien routes, what type of aliens are weak against what type of towers, and what’s the best way to protect cores. All these answers may vary from player to player but it’s worth the 800 MSPoints ($10) that the game costs to find out."

Gamestooge: 90%

"Overall, Defense Grid: The Awakening is one of the best tower defense games out there; it’s an addictive, no frills, high reward experience that’s well worth the 800 MSP price tag. Those of you who don’t own an Xbox 360 are advised to check out the PC version, which is also available on Steam."

Frictionless Insight: 90%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a shining jewel of the genre. The campaign offers around a day's worth of play, with plenty of replayability available to those striving for high scores with more efficient tower configurations or try the game's many challenges."

The Next Level: 90%

"Defense Grid is a game for a thinking man without too much time on his hands.  Each mission is relatively short and sprinkled with checkpoints, which can be saved and returned to later.  Undoing your mistakes is quick and effortless, while maps that seem impossible at first glance prove a delight if you only take them one tower at a time."

Gaming Target: 90%

"Defense Grid is a fantastic tower defense game for both beginners and veterans alike, and is a great addition to your XBLA library. And at only $10, it is half the price of the PC version and includes the bonus Borderlands maps and our beloved Achievements. It’s a great buy but be warned: once you place your first tower, you’ll be hooked for many, many hours of alien blasting fun."

Video Game Reviews: 90%

"Add to this the 800MSP price tag, and the fact that XBLA is responsible for bringing yet another hidden gem onto our HDD’s and Defense Grid is pretty much a must-buy. It harks backs to the halcyon days of yore when games were as they should be, simple yet effective – it will draw you in and keep you there until you’ve conquered that map and believe us, you will WANT to conquer each and every map…download, now."

HipHopGamerShow: 90%

"Tower defense games are certainly becoming some of the most popular games that are available for download on today’s gaming consoles. The latest to hit the Xbox Live Arcade is Defense Grid, which is easily one of the best strategy games on the XBLA and its one of the better tower defense games on the market."

Gamer.NL (In Dutch): 90%

"Defense Grid is een van de beste Tower Defense-games en biedt een geweldige introductie voor het genre op de Xbox 360. Het spel zit slim in elkaar, is erg verslavend en een genot om naar te kijken."

(English translation via Google): "Defense Grid is one of the best Tower Defense games, and provides a great introduction to the genre on the Xbox 360. The game is cleverly together, is very addictive and a joy to watch"

inc gamers: 90%

"Speaking of the 360 version specifically, the idea of controlling a tower defence game by pad filled me with fear, which is why I'm thrilled to report that the game is a natural fit for the 360 controller. The cursor is bound to the camera, and individual spaces and towers are large enough that selecting a particular one is no hassle at all. If anything I'm willing to argue it controls just as well as the PC version, if not better, and I can honestly say I never thought I'd say that about a real-time strategy game, subgenres be damned."

Mygamer: 88%

"For 800 Microsoft Points ($10), you definitely get quite the bang for your buck.  I really have not been this addicted to an XBLA game like this in a long time.  If you are a tower defense fan, you need to download the full version of this game.  And if you are a not a fan of the genre, Defense Grid just might have enough in its bag of tricks to convert you."

Official Xbox Magazine: 85%

"one of the finest examples of the burgeoning tower defense genre on Xbox 360."

Planet Xbox 360: 85%

" Too often, you find a great game on the iPhone and wish you could enjoy it on your console at home. Defense Grid is addictive enough to make you wish you could bring it along with you on the go."

GamersRoute: 85%

"...as I began to progress through the Campaign mode, I was hooked. I didn’t want to stop. I actually played it about 5 hours straight until I had trouble focusing on the screen. It’s addicting, to say the least."

GamerVision: 85%

"It's a big fish in an incredibly small pond, true, but that doesn't change the fact that Defense Grid: The Awakening is now the premier tower defense on consoles."

Console Monster: 85%

"Defense Grid provides all that is great about Tower Defense games and suffers from none of the pitfalls. For 800 MSP this game will provide hours of sci-fi fun, something that’s very easy to put on for a quick play, only for it to turn into a marathon gaming session. Defense Grid comes highly recommended."

GameOver Online: 85%
"There's something uniquely addictive about tower defense games, which is the only real problem I have with Defense Grid. I meant to get things done this week, but instead, I've been wiping out entire armies of aliens."

Gamer's Temple: 84%

"What Defense Grid does do is take the basics and build upon them. There are many different types of invaders, aliens in this case, and you'll need to deal with them in different ways from the game's expansive arsenal of tower types. The result is a fun and challenging tower defense game which offers a bit more strategic depth than typical."

Gamer 2.0: 81%, BUY IT

"Defense Grid: The Awakening offers what is easily the best tower defense game on the Xbox 360 and is a game that anyone interested in that genre should check out. Besides the fact that this game is only half of the price (800 points or $10) it costs on Steam and other digital download services on the PC, the 24 levels with quite a few alternate challenge missions adds a lot of replay value that will keep you busy for a while."

Gamespot: 80%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening doesn't do anything to advance the tower defense genre. But it doesn't need to. Its elements are so skillfully balanced that those who have already spent plenty of time playing such games are sure to find Defense Grid one of the most rewarding games of its type, while those new to tower defense will find this an accessible introduction to the genre that's easy to get into but very tough to master. This is an alien invasion to be thankful for."

FlickCast: 80%

"Overall, Defense Grid: The Awakening feels like a great combination of a casual gamestyle like Tower Defense combined with layers of strategy that can often be found in more advanced RTS games with the options for so many different tower options and placement strategies. The game looks great and plays smoothly. This is one of the top XBox Live Arcade games thus far, and that’s saying a lot considering the tremendous summer XBLA has experienced. This game is definitely worth a try of at least the demo for all players and because of its addictive nature will probably have you shelling out your 800 Microsoft points quickly."

XBA Cast: 80%

"Controls are very good.  It’s always hard to take games that for years have been played with a mouse and adapt them to consoles.  The left stick moves your courser and view around the screen, the right stick is the different zoom levels, a button is the action button, when hovering over an enemy B brings up the enemies stats, and the bumper buttons can speed up time to move the waves along quicker."

MashButtons: 80%

"All in all, there is a lot of fun to be had in playing Defense Grid. The progression in difficulty makes it easy for newcomers to the genre to pick up and get into the frantic tower building process while suppressing phases of alien invasions does not get old, just remember to think a couple steps ahead of the enemy and keep an eye on the power core meter."

Gaming Union: 80%,  BUY IT

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a shining example of what a tower defence game should be. With creative level design, and impressive graphics, the only real downside is that there aren't more towers and upgrades to play with. There is a ton of replay value in the title, and it should definitely be picked up by fans of tower defence games."

El33tOnline: 80%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a well-crafted, enjoyable Tower Defense game. It certainly brings something different enough to the table to appeal to Tower Defense fans, but at the same time is simple enough that even newcomers will enjoy the strategic element."

Snackbar Games: 80%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is what retail tower defense titles should be. It is fun, deep, and it has a good amount of replay value built-in. The concept is easy to grasp, but perfecting its execution will take even seasoned tower defense pros a while to figure out. In a genre where more units and more upgrades is typically regarded as better it is refreshing to see one place value on something else (bang for your buck) for a change."

Honest Gamers: 80%

"Usually with tower defense games, you don’t expect much in the presentation department, but Hidden Path went all out with Defense Grid. The title uses the Gamebryo engine that was also used in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and Fallout 3. There are three perspectives you can view the game at; a close-up view for looking at the details on the units, a mid-range view, and a far view."

GamerLimit: 75%

"Fortunately, Defense Grid manages to break the mold in a series of subtle, yet impressive ways that help it establish itself in the tower defense world. The first, and perhaps most notable of these improvements is that of the visuals. Defense Grid is easily one of the best looking tower defense titles to date. The environments are both varied and beautiful, calling on the player to construct towers amidst rocky canyons, within the ruins of cities, atop dilapidated military structures and more."

Gaming Age: 75%

"A tower defense! The genre of Defense Grid.  Overbeaten horse.

Thousands of like games,
Most of them are free to play,  Why drop ten bucks now?

Is it the graphics?  Simple, addictive gameplay?  Console-tuned UI?

Perhaps the challenge? Increasing complexity? New, shiny weapons?

Unique strategies? Multi-level battlegrounds? Increasing tension?

All are nice features. The package comes together. Worthy of purchase."

Gaijin Games: 75%

"Like all good tower defense games, this sucker is addictive and infuriating. When you beat a level and you’ve kicked tons of alien ass, you are amazed that you only got a silver medal. But the difficulty of getting golds isn’t disheartening and it doesn’t feel cheap. It’s exciting to think you could do better."

Spawnkill: 70%

"A $10 Xbox Live Arcade title that was previously released for Windows in December of last year, Defense Grid: The Awakening seeks to be best tower defense game around. In many aspects, it succeeds in creating the most enjoyable and polished tower defense experience you’ll find on any console or handheld."

Teletext: 60%

"With 10 different towers - all with their own specialities - there's more to worry about here than just plonking down towers and hitting fast forward. The presentation is also better than usual"

 Kotaku: BUY IT

"It's a crowded genre, but I really do think that Defense Grid is the best tower defense game out there, its varied level design and professional production standards (especially the graphics and voice-over work) setting it apart from its more "casual" competitors."

San Jose Mercury News:  BUY IT

"Defense Grid" on Xbox 360 is the most fun I've had with a video game since "Super Mario Sunshine" on the Nintendo GameCube. Xbox 360 users can download the game for $10 worth of what my son Riley calls "Microsoptic points."

Examiner: BUY IT

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a great addition to Xbox LIVE and tower defense fans will definitely love this game. At 800 Microsoft points, it provides over 10 hours of fun and has a high replayability value making this one of the best deals on the marketplace. If you are on the fence, try the free trial and you will be hooked."

Platform Nation: BUY IT

"Defense Grid: The Awakening definitely brings some fresh ideas to the tower defense concept, and with the high definition gameplay and the 10 unique towers. This game should be a buy for you if you enjoy tower defense games."

SarcasticGamer: BUY IT

"Having said all this, I am shocked at how fun it is! There are a total of 10 different tower types for you to erect *teehee*. My personal favorites are the the Meteor tower (which fires a fiery meteor at long range), the Tesla tower (which fires lightning bolts and plays a mediocre cover version of ELO’s “Signs”), and the Temporal tower (which emits an energy pulse that slows enemies within it’s range)."

Diskant: BUY IT

"As you work your way through each level of Defense Grid’s story mode, it becomes clear that a lot of time and effort has gone into the design of the enemies and the towers themselves, ensuring that there is never a single one-size-fits-all solution to any given situation.  But while you can tell yourself that you’re only interested in the intellectual challenge, part of you is still tickled by big, flashy spectacle, something that Defense Grid delivers in spades. The core gameplay may be relatively basic, but it’s presented with the glossy sheen of an expensive mainstream title. Your bases are lonely sci-fi ruins perched among canyons and glaciers, the enemy a horde of alien mechs destined to melt under the concentrated firepower of your laser turrets and cannons. I may be advancing through my thirties, but I still get a little thrill from making a giant alien robot explode prettily, and I expect you do too."

Sanctuary4Gamers: BUY IT

"Definitely the best tower defense game on the market, it sticks to the standard tower defense gameplay, but with a few added extras that make this game unique."

Gamer's Intuition: BUY IT

"What Defense Grid does to make this a little more interesting, though, is to mix up some of these variables a bit, and it's this kind of creative take that makes the title stand out. First of all, the enemies aren't simply sweeping from one side of the map to another- they're moving towards your power plant to steal cores and run off with them. The entry and exit points aren't always the same, so you'll have to adjust your strategy accordingly. Airborne enemies follow their own flight path distinct from the ground-based units, and you're only able to engage them on their path to your core- once they reach it, they grab and vanish. You can zoom in to varying degrees to watch the carnage close-up, though the primary top-down view is the only one really practical for laying out your defenses."

The Xbox Domain: BUY IT

"When it comes down to it, this is the greatest tower defense game made to date. Thats only my opinion, but I am sure it is shared by others. This is well worth 1200 MSP, but you can snatch it off the marketplace for only 800."

Diehard Gamefan: BUY IT

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is great tower defense game for XBLA.  As it was a pretty successful PC game, it definitely is worthy of your purchase. It is only $10(800 MSP), which is a reasonable price for all of the numerous levels and modes you will get.  It’s easy to learn gameplay style is very addicting.  If you like tower defense games, then this is a must buy."

"Defense grid is such a charming and challenging experience that shouldn't be missed by tower defense fans.  Even if you're not a fan, it may turn you into one."

"For Starters, DG Nails the core experience.  The maps smoothly increase in complexity:  aliens begin to attack on multiple tracks; puzzles offer a nice variety of challenges, like shaping the invaders' path by creating walls of towers; and an orbital super weapon adds an intriguing twist to the gameplay."

Joystiq's Contributing Editor Kevin Kelly lists Defense Grid: The Awakening as one his picks for the "Best of the Rest" of the games just outside of their top 10 list of games of the year.

IGN lists Defense Grid: The Awakening as one of the top 10 "2008 Games You May Have Overlooked" saying "...give credit to the designers of Defense Grid for coming up with a premium tower defense game that's worth your attention and money."

 Busy Gamer: 100%
"This one scores high on the value charts, my friends. I would recommend picking it up if you haven’t already. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some Crashers to school before they make it to my cores."

Game Carbon: 100%
"Defense Grid is an amazing game that will keep you addicted for a very long time. There is the story mode along with a few other modes and you can earn medals and achievements along the way. This is a great incentive to keep you playing long after you have beaten each map once."

Critical Hit: 100% "Apple"

"Defense Grid manages to hit all the right notes. For starters, the learning curve is as smooth as silk. Each level introduces a new concept – a new tower or enemy, or a new play mechanic. You then spend that level learning how to integrate it into your existing tactics. It’s never overwhelming for the new player, but real-time strategy experts will still find a lot to love. The layers of depth come quick and fierce, and the game provides more than enough challenge for even the die-hard."

GamePro: 90%
"Hours will go by before you realize truly how long you've been sitting in front of your computer, as the game becomes addicting in the later stages when you get close to the 20th wave before failing to conquer those littles buggers."

Evil Avatar: 90%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is deep, challenging, compelling and pretty darn good looking for a 'budget' title. In addition, it also has an addictive chemical reaction with the human brain, making you think about playing even when you're not. With twenty levels, three difficulty modes, leaderboards, and a high level of replayability, I can't help but recommend Defense Grid to any fan of the strategy genre."

 GameTunnel: EDITOR'S CHOICE,  90%

"With gorgeous visuals, solid voice work and a story to move things along, the production values are high. So is the quality of the level design, which makes the entire package nearly impossible to put down. It feels like the tower defense game that Blizzard would make if they made one. I mean intentionally. It the perfection of so much in the genre that it really stands apart while being similar."

 GameFocus: EDITOR'S CHOICE, 90%

"This is pure crack...Most addictive game in ages...I never would have expected such as basic game as “Tower Defense” to be given such a great make over with some gameplay tweaks and be such a worth while and addictive game. While you can play a very basic version of this type of game on thousands of websites, if you enjoy playing them this is the only commercial one that is worth your gaming dollar."

GamerTell: 90%
"All in all Defense Grid: The Awakening is a very fun game with little to complain about. If you like tower defense style games this one will take up a lot of your time. The game even throws in little surprises once in the while such as a super weapon that shoots from space. Not easily knowing what enemies are weak against certain towers puts a damper on strategy but manipulating the path of the aliens sort of makes up for that. You really can’t go wrong with this game for $20."

Word of Shadow: 88%

"Defense Grid was created by Mark Terrano, the lead designer of Age of Empires II, and for $20 makes for one hell of an awesome little game. Perfect for filling the gaps between MMOs and general time wasting. The Steam metascore for Defense Grid was 81 /100, but I'd happily give it 88. Definitely worth the price."

Gaming Heaven: EDITOR'S CHOICE, 87%

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a total triumph, especially when you consider the budget $20 asking price. Keeping track of time is difficult and for the last two weeks I have been playing and replaying the game quite regularly. The game leaves you wanting for more and this is a good sign for future expansion packs. You can count me in!"

 Gameshark: 83%, B+

"It's a brilliant mechanic that will constantly keep you coming back to improve and perfect your run of a particular stage. Whether it's sacrificing laser tower-power for machine gun shield-breaking, or creating lengthy paths by blocking routes with structures, there's no shortage of strategy to be had in the six-to-eight hour campaign."

IGN: 80%
"For a budget game, Defense Grid easily delivers plenty of gripping gameplay; it's easy to lose track of time while playing it. In fact, there were quite a number of times where I defeated a wave of aliens only to realize that I had made it through the entire level. I actually wanted another wave or two in order to test the effectiveness of the mouse trap I had designed. It's always a good sign when a game leaves you wanting for more."

GamerVision: 80% - BUY IT
"I'd Buy it a Drink, if I Could...with clever game design the developers were able to harness exactly what makes tower defense games so addictive. At the price of only $20, the game is a steal for the amount of content."

JustPressPlay: 80%

"All of this added together makes one awesome game. I wouldn't be surprised if they continue making such quality games and become the next big game developers."

GameConnect Europe: 80%

"Defense Grid's pacing is flawless, and each challenge is introduced gradually, with perfectly layered gameplay options. Ploughing through the game's levels by piling up machine guns and cannons, and hoping that all goes well will work for most players, but truly understanding the game's weapon and enemy system will lead to total mastery of the game mechanics, and the highest scores and achievements. Going over and over a level again will reveal new paths and strategies that were not apparent on first impact, which combined with a well balanced achievements system gives the game a very high replayability factor."

PUZZLE GAME OF THE YEAR, 80%

"Like with most good games, Defense Grid: The Awakening takes only a few minutes to learn, but much longer to master. The seemingly simple concept of defending ground against a hoard of aliens is brilliantly created here, and it’s more than worth the low $20 price whether you need an afternoon distraction or a title that you can take time to really master."

BlogCritics:  80%
"Defense Grid had a job to do with making a viable product out of the predominately free tower defense genre, and it does that job well. At a price of $20 on Steam, this is enough game for your dollar. The gaming on offer here is casual, but with enough challenge in it to please anyone."

 GameAndPlayer: 80%

"Defense Grid highlights just what is possible when a small yet dedicated studio sets out to refine a genre. What we're left with is a fun, addictive and affordable game which is more than capable of filling up that half hour between dinner and heading out for a night on the town."

4 Color Rebellion: 80% "Great"

" After a few of these easy levels, the game started getting harder and harder. Finishing with all of your cores intact becomes a real challenge, which is a plus. It definitely adds to the replayability of the game. Defense Grid also has an online leaderboard and a ton of achievements to unlock. "

 Leydig Project: 80%

"...Defense Grid: The Awakening remains an extremely addictive game which is easy to get into, easier to get lost in and easily the best $20 you can spend on a brand-new PC game."

Tech-Gaming: 75%, B

"The game features a generous amount of missions for it's $20 price tag and has a decent replay value via extra challenges, highscore leaderboards and achievements."

GameBrainSpew: "Loved Every Minute of It"

"There is a LOT of game to be had here.  Even if you’re not a big achievements toiler, there is, in addition to the standard story mode,  one or multiple challenge modes for each level (which I still need to try)."

VGBlogger: "BUY IT"
"But the two most important things that make this game a must-have for PC gamers are the design and balance. The design is all about how much time and skill was put into coming up with maps and areas that will keep you challenged and thinking, yet allow you to fairly win. Defense Grid: The Awakening lays out your options slowly starting from the first map, with a single tower type against a single enemy type. As you progress you will gain access to ten tower types as well as a multitude of upgrades, and of course also have to deal with all fifteen enemy races, each with different strengths and weaknesses and strategies."

GamersInfo: "A great game that is a lot of fun and well worth the price"

"Less than an hour later, I was buying the game with great anticipation and excitement! Tower defense games aren’t new, but Hidden Path has managed to put together a really fun game that offers many hours of fun and quite a bit of replayability."

Bansama: "Gold"

"And where Monsters was ultimately an overly difficult and frustrating experience, Defense Grid was a breath of fresh air. It is apparent right from the start that Hidden Path have put every effort into making sure that Defense Grid acts as an ambassador for the genre. The first few levels of the game act as a painless introduction to the idea of defending against waves of attackers for those new to the game. Then, once you reach the advanced levels, the real fun begins."

Rock Paper Shotgun:
"Defense Grid: The Awakening is one of the best tower defence games (yes, I’m spelling it with a c, I’m an Englishman) I’ve ever played.  The game itself is ludicrously compelling. Even the really tough maps have had me repeat and repeat, rather than quit to do something else - no mean feat with an attention span as gnat-like as mine. I’ve forgotten the last time I was so hooked - to the point where I’ve been scrounging minutes here and there, between work and domestic chores, just to get another round in. I thoroughly recommend this game, and I’m certain lots of other folks will have as much fun with it as I have."

"Defense Grid: The Awakening is one of those games that quickly gets under your skin with its "easy to learn, difficult to master" style. Soon, you'll be lying up awake a nights trying to figure out how best to use your resources to build an unbeatable defense."

 SiliconEra:

"For tower defense fans, Defense Grid for $20 through Steam is a no-brainer: it’s polished, the graphics are great and run fine on my 4 year old PC, the music gets your heart pumping, and it’s just plain fun."

GamingShogun:

"Available off the Steam digital distribution service for $19.99, it would be a shame to pass up this engaging and addictive game. Defense Grid: The Awakening is truly the best tower defense game to date and I hope Hidden Path has plans to go further in the genre as they truly have a knack for it and we just can't wait to see what they have in store for a sequel."

The BBPS:
"2008 was a fantastic year for tower defense games. Off the top of my head I can name four games in the genre that should easily have met with universal acclaim, and Defense Grid: The Awakening is amongst them. With a great visual look, a new style of play, and a surprising amount of personality courtesy of your bodiless companion, it’s both $19.99 well spent for anyone that loves tower defense games and a great entrance to the genre for TD noobs."

 GameCentral:

"Defense Grid is an incredibly fun strategy game. The voice acting for your companion is priceless, the levels are almost endlessly replayable, and the unit variety is surprising. There is pure strategy behind tower placement and upgrade paths, and also with the maze creation on the more open maps.  Possibly my favorite thing about this game is that it is hardcore and casual at the same time. I can jump in, play a few levels, and have a blast for 15 minutes, or I can spend hours on the same level try to reach the top of the leaderboard."

 Vancouver Game Design:

"If I’m laying it on a bit thick it’s because this is one of those games you have to recommend.  This is a AAA tower defense game; it could have worked fine even in Flash, and been just as good.  The fact that it’s 3D is nice, but I’m happy to say it’s the design and production values that move it up a tier."

Destructoid: 70%
"But if you like tower defense games and have $20 to spend, Defense Grid: The Awakening is absolutely worth checking out and will provide you with some solid entertainment"

Frictionless Insight: 70%
"Defense Grid: The Awakening is a shining jewel of the genre. The campaign offers around a day's worth of play, with plenty of replayability available to those who enjoy striving for high scores with more efficient tower configurations, or trying the game's many challenges."

Re: Defense Grid Named a Top 5 Console Download of the Year

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. Thanks. Buy WoW Account

Re: Defense Grid Named a Top 5 Console Download of the Year ...

Actually it would seem like a waste of resources if all it did was give you 4.5% cash bonus and stealth detection, maybe a patch should be issued to fix this? I never use command towers because they seem kinda over priced and do very little....

Re: Defense Grid Named a Top 5 Console Download of the Year ...

Best defense game i've ever played. There are no other game like this published by any other game developers. If you know any other games after the release of defense grid for pc please comment it. For the consoles , there are a couple of alternatives for the PS3 and PSP.. But on xbox still defense grid rules. I have played the game 40 times maybe from the beginning to the end. And entered this site hundreds of times to see any additional new levels or a PS3 version. No hope.. This genre is for the people probably who are using both sides of their brains at the same time.

Great Work, Great Game

I was browsing the XBOX 360 download games and was about to get some other game until I saw Tower Defense in your description. I downloaded the demo and loved it. Great work to the whole team. Keep the updates/content coming through XBOX. The ease and value of the content make it a simple buying decision. Thanks Hidden Path.

Great Work

I would like to start off by saying incredible work on the new arcade release... Definatly plan on purchasing it but played the trial version for a good 3 hours today.

New PC Price Please?

Now that Defense Grid The Awakening is available for download on Xbox Live for $10, how about lowering the PC game price as well? I'd love to purchase it through Steam, but it's still $19.95!
