Senior Combat Designer

Hidden Path Entertainment is seeking an experienced Senior Combat Designer to join our team to work on a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will take place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. 

You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team that is focused on creating exciting third-person action combat. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong background in designing and implementing compelling combat systems and features.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable with Unreal Engine and Unreal Engine blueprints. You should be passionate about creating combat and 3rd person action gameplay that feels great!

You Should: 

  • Have a solid understanding for what makes combat feel good
  • Great communicator that’s concise and documents their features
  • Keep up to date with recent third person action and RPG games
  • Professional experience as a designer on combat or other core game systems
  • Represent many different playstyles and player types with their designs

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Champion the moment-to-moment action experience for an open world RPG
  • Design, implement, and own thematic combat experiences that feel great
  • Work with gameplay programmers implement classes, enemies, abilities, weapons, and other combat features in Unreal 4
  • Work with artists and animators to design fantastical weapons, movesets, abilities, and creatures with good form and function
  • Work with VFX and audio designers to create communicative and flavorful combat feedback
  • Work with level and encounter designers to establish best practices for implementing combat in playable content
  • Work with producers to define feature goals, tasks, and timelines to deliver quality work on time

Nice to Haves

  • Leadership experience is a great quality
  • Experience playing D&D and other tabletop roleplaying games
  • Scripting and Blueprinting experience
  • Familiarity with Unreal 4’s Gameplay Ability System

Lead Graphics Programmer

You will be responsible for leading a small team of graphics engineers for a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will take place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise using Unreal Engine 4. The graphics team is responsible for the technologies behind visual effects, lighting, and simulations, and for maintaining performance. You will be working closely with directors and leads to achieve the project’s graphics goals. As a lead, you will be responsible for day to day task management, task and feature estimations, contributing your advice on the architecture for new features, and code reviews for your team. You will also be responsible for leading the effort to profile and optimize the game to reach our target frame rates on multiple platforms and resolutions with assistance from your team. You will also document the features you create so that others can use them and understand them. This is both a lead and hands on position. This role reports to the studio’s Director of Technology.

You should:

  • Have 8+ years in the game industry
  • Have shipped at least one game title
  • Have experience leading a small team of engineers, including task management, prioritization of tasks and goals, architecture and API advice, and code reviews
  • Have excellent knowledge on ways to profile and optimize code and content for the CPU and GPU in a multithreaded game engine
  • Have strong knowledge of 3D mathematics and rendering pipelines
  • Have excellent knowledge of C++
  • Have excellent coding design skills
  • Be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have strongly cultivated soft skills

Nice to have:

  • B.S.in computer science or computer engineering
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4
  • Solid debugging skills
  • Experience working with a console
  • An artistic eye for what makes good visuals
