Senior Environment Artist – Terrain and Vegetation

Hidden Path Entertainment is seeking a skilled Senior Environment Artist who is comfortable in Unreal Engine for a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will take place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of modern environment art pipelines and their implementations within Unreal Engine. As the Terrain and Vegetation Artist, you will be responsible for creating engaging terrain environments that not only excel artistically, but as well-crafted gameplay spaces as well.

In this role you will be working closely with the Art Director, Creative Director, Art Leads, Design Leads, and project stakeholders.

You should:

  • Have 3+ years of experience in the game industry as an Environment Artist with at least 1 shipped AAA title or equivalent work in a related field
  • Have experience creating terrain for real-time application in Unreal engine or any other proprietary game engine
  • Have experience creating vegetation for Unreal engine or any other proprietary game engine
  • Have a deep understanding of foliage shading techniques to create natural looking, believable foliage
  • Have both an aesthetic eye and technical proficiency in terrain and foliage workflows
  • Have a deep love for applying lessons learned from nature into the development of terrain and foliage assets
  • Be passionate about your work and interested in pushing the boundaries of the discipline
  • Have a strong work ethic, self-direction, and constant drive to make the game better
  • Be able to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with the development team
  • Be organized and able to document your work such that others can understand it
  • Make timely deliverables

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create AAA quality terrain environments, vegetation, and biomes as established by project art and design direction
  • Create highly polished, efficient, and visually engaging models, textures, and materials for terrain environments and vegetation assets
  • Collaborate with designers and artists to rapidly prototype levels and test out ideas
  • Work with technical artists and engineers to refine content pipelines, develop best practices, and identify technical needs to help keep environment creation streamlined and efficient
  • Optimize terrain and vegetation for performance and memory

Nice to have:

  • Experience with World Machine, Gaea, Houdini or world Creator for terrain heightmap creation
  • Experience with SpeedTree or similar procedural vegetation packages
  • Experience with Substance suite, Quixel suite, Megascans or similar texturing/asset packages
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry, procedural content creation, lighting, shading, and PBR workflows
  • Familiarity with Confluence / JIRA / Perforce

Lead Graphics Programmer

You will be responsible for leading a small team of graphics engineers for a AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will take place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise using Unreal Engine 4. The graphics team is responsible for the technologies behind visual effects, lighting, and simulations, and for maintaining performance. You will be working closely with directors and leads to achieve the project’s graphics goals. As a lead, you will be responsible for day to day task management, task and feature estimations, contributing your advice on the architecture for new features, and code reviews for your team. You will also be responsible for leading the effort to profile and optimize the game to reach our target frame rates on multiple platforms and resolutions with assistance from your team. You will also document the features you create so that others can use them and understand them. This is both a lead and hands on position. This role reports to the studio’s Director of Technology.

You should:

  • Have 8+ years in the game industry
  • Have shipped at least one game title
  • Have experience leading a small team of engineers, including task management, prioritization of tasks and goals, architecture and API advice, and code reviews
  • Have excellent knowledge on ways to profile and optimize code and content for the CPU and GPU in a multithreaded game engine
  • Have strong knowledge of 3D mathematics and rendering pipelines
  • Have excellent knowledge of C++
  • Have excellent coding design skills
  • Be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have strongly cultivated soft skills

Nice to have:

  • B.S.in computer science or computer engineering
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4
  • Solid debugging skills

Office Manager (Part-time)

You will be responsible for facilities management, routine bookkeeping, purchasing, and assistance with HR and IT. Opportunities exist for assistance in other areas as well such as website community maintenance or game testing. Position reports to Director of Human Resources, but works closely with COO/CFO and supports others as well. This part-time role reports from 1:00PM to 6:00PM Monday through Friday.

Principal Functions

Facilities Management

  • Maintain first class appearance of facility
  • Greet guests and visitors, process deliveries, monitor incoming calls
  • Interface with property manager to resolve facility issues

Human Resources

  • Plan all employee functions including:
  • Summer and winter events (employees + family)
  • Periodic movie outings (employees only)
  • Assist HR director as necessary, including onboarding process for new employees and management of benefits programs
  • Act as a backup to the HR Director and address employee queries when needed.
  • Assist with various research projects and/or special projects and reports

Financial

  • Perform day-to-day accounting, including transactional input for invoices and credit cards
  • Monitor time allocation compliance, import data to accounting system
  • Maintain vendor files
  • Process and import expense reports using third party system
  • Select and process bill payments weekly

Procurement

  • Manage beverages and snack foods
  • Manage order and receipt process for furniture and equipment
  • Maintain fixed asset system and asset tracking
  • Work to find lowest cost alternatives

IT

  • Assist with equipment purchasing and setup for new and existing employees
  • Manage equipment repair process
  • Manage and organize IT supplies/stock

Requirements:

  • Strong computer skills including experience with Excel
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently
  • Bookkeeping experience (Quickbooks knowledge a plus)
  • Detail oriented, accurate, good problem solving skills
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
